Into the maze of ink, paper, and cloth
once more,
on a different path than
that smiling façade-led tour.
Then the ghostly glow
covers the spine
of an unassuming tome,
which I lift to find
Libra's signature.

The truth of his absence,
and the origins of the castle,
of how the king's rule
had become a hassle,
sending those deemed unworthy
below the surface.

Now none of the enslaved
could remember their worth,
for memories were lost,
captured by the usurper
and his cruel curse.

The book-covered wall
slides back to reveal
a stair spiraling down,
and I follow its steps
without a sound
to a door large and ancient,
of wood and stone.

At my touch,
it gives way
and swings forth to show
a dark, lamp-lit, and cold
stone corridor.
